The architects gained planning approval to demolish a 1960s bungalow and rebuild a two storey detached house. The approval to demolish and rebuild gave the client the opportunity to achieve something different and the design was then developed to try and build to the passivhaus standards. The site is south facing and has far reaching views across Weymouth bay. The architect went out to tender to 4 local builders, however the tender prices came back over budget. The decision was then taken by the client to go down the self build procurement route. The architect was employed to measure and order materials, to provide site supervision on a daily basis, and to obtain quotes for each element and ensure suitable trades were employed. The new house has a high standard of finishes throughout.
