The site includes a pair of semi detached dwellings built to code level 4 and passivhaus certified standards and a detached bungalow built to code level 4 standardsThe design of the dwellings is a direct response to the brief, taking into consideration both the immediate context of the site and the wider vernacular context of South Cambridgeshire.Hastoe Housing Association require a high level of sustainability and energy performance from the homes they construct, significantly exceeding government standards. In this instance the houses are to be designed to achieve Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4 and to incorporate design features that could enable the higher energy standards of Passivhaus to be incorporated if required. Passivhaus is generally achieved through the use of very high levels of insulation and air tightness, with controlled mechanical ventilation and heat recovery systems reducing the occupiers reliance on energy resources.
