R-Gen was commissioned by the client One Manchester to reinvent two dilapidated concreteframe maisonette blocks into low energy modern accommodation, which would act as a catalystfor wider social and physical regeneration of the immediate vicinity. EnerPHit, being a fabric firstapproach, was preferred as a mechanism for guaranteeing the reduction in the energy demandof both buildings whilst allowing the design team to be creative in producing a new architecturallanguage for the appearance of the building blocks.Removal of both cavity walls, the existing pitched roof, adjacent garages, communal entranceprojection, as well as stripping out the individual gas supply to each unit, allowed thedevelopment team to be ambitious in its vision for reinventing the estate.

Extension & Refurbishment of Victorian Townhouse using Passivhaus methodology and CarbonLite guidance. Certified to the Passivhaus Institute's new EnerPHit (refurbishment) Standard. [NEW:Passivhaus Trust awards shortlisted project - presentation available on these pages].PHPP certification is based on 20 C, rather than the 21 C the house was heated to during 2010/11. Forecasts are based on a 'typical year' rather than the 'actual' year being monitored. Measured data here is from 2005/06 (before) and 2009/10 (after). Measured room temperatures show an average of 21 degrees centigrade during the heating season. Please note the final air leakage as certified under EnerPHit was an N50 of 1.0 ACH. When adjusted for 2010 average monthly temps.& an internal temp. of 21 C, PHPP predicted a space heat demand of 36kWh/m2.a whereas 35kWh/m2.a was measured.

This project involved extending and upgrading the existing house to the low energy in use Passivhaus EnerPHit standard. Proposals included enlarging the open plan kitchen / diner to the rear of the house, taking advantage of views over the landscaped garden. At first floor a new master bedroom with dressing area and en suite was created. The existing roof space was converted into two rooms - a study and family room.

Highfield Coach House

This residential dwelling has been build on the grounds of a redundant former garage and store building. Halliday Clark worked closely with the client and local authority to create this EnerPHit passivhaus conversion using an independent lining construction and full MVHR system. The scheme received several local Civic Society awards in 2016 including Best Restoration Project, Sustainability Winner and Best Project.
