Designed by Tate Harmer Architects, this new buildingmeets the Passivhaus design criteria, working within the restrictions of a tight suburban site by introducing substantial glazing to the rear of the property whilst maintaining the look of the existing faade on the street. A central lightwell will ensure that there is excellent daylight and natural ventilation within the deep plan, without overlooking to the surrounding neighbours. This energy efficient new-build home will be a subtle but unique additional to the area.

Bartholomew Barn has been built to Saint-Gobain's MULTICOMFORT standard, incorporating the energy efficiency and thermal comfort standards set by Passivhaus and introducing new standards in audio, indoor-air and visual comfort.The MULTICOMFORT design concept is about building and renovating homes, offices, schools, hospitals and other buildings in a way that gives improved comfort, health and wellbeing while protecting the environment. Together with Associated Architects and Speller Metcalfe, we have put our MULTICOMFORT building concept into practice by delivering a multi-purpose sports and drama hall for the Kings School, Worcester.

Belvoir Cottage

Belvoir Cottage has been designed as a modern version of a traditional Kentish cottage with dormer windows and catslide roof. It has, within the constraints of the LPA, been designed using low energy PH methodology meeting the PHPP criteria. The foundation system used was the first Isoquick PHI certified installation in the UK. A novel portal all timber I-beam construction method is used which reduces thermal bridging to a minimum. The majority of components used have PHI certification.

Burry Port School, Carmarthenshire.

Conceived by the client, Carmarthenshire County Council, the pioneering scheme for Burry Port Community Primary School, brings together the towns once separate infant and junior schools on one central site, in a design that celebrates Welsh materials and embraces innovation.Set over three principal buildings, the project is a mix of refurbishment and new-build. The prominent new-build aspects include the first Passivhaus school building in Wales, as well as a separate, Brettstapel constructed elliptical pod for multi-use purposes, which unites the new and old elements of the school.In line with Passivhaus requirements, new junior years building is wrapped in continuous air-tight layer from the foundations-up. The elliptical pod building, constructed using the Brettstapel method, is one of the first examples of Brettstapel construction being used in the education sector in the UK. The technique makes use of Wales abundance of low-grade softwood, Douglas Fir and Sitka Spruce.

Bushbury Hill Primary School

Bushbury Hill primary school was one of the first projects in the country to achieve Passivhaus certification in February 2012. The school was built to the same budget and completed in the same time frame as a traditional build. Due to the challenging nature of the site, there was extensive consultation with the school and its neighbours throughout the design and construction process.
